Thanks for reading my really long review, Amnesia is a strong entry point into the genre and a great title by itself nonetheless. Of course, these are just nitpickings and might not have bothered most people, and didn't ruin the experience for me either. > At times it felt like the dialogue was attempting humour(Daniel being totally oblivious to Alexander's schemes or Agrippa's bubbly nature), which felt odd compared to the serious tone of the game. > I got an idea of the spawn and chase mechanics of the monsters early on in the game, and from then on, it was easy to dodge them and the stakes never felt that high. ![]() > Overall, the game sets out to present an eerie and unsettling atmosphere which makes the player feel helpless, and it does this superbly. They added to the gameplay but did not feel tedious or unnecessary. > The puzzles were engaging and fun to solve, and fit into the narrative perfectly, the castle being old and all. > The horrifying monsters of amnesia add tension to the atmosphere, and of course, form the main horror element of the game. As the circumstances become more grim, it is reflected by the characters and it adds a layer of realness to them. > The characters had depth and I felt the voice acting was spot-on. > The story of the game unfolds neatly in front of you bit by bit, in the form of notes and flashbacks, and thus keeps you interested throughout. ![]() It also forces you to manage resources carefully. > The lantern & tinderbox system puts the pressure on the player and gives the game a sense of urgency. TL DR: All the individual elements that make up this game are done really well, resulting in an overall satisfying experience.
